I advocate to not hide in the shadows and so I’m here in full transparency. 

And the truth is that I’m currently struggling but I 
know that the more I can identify how I feel and express this out loud, I am better able to process these emotions.

I am experiencing #anxiety and feel drained.

My mind is racing with hundreds of thoughts per second without stopping even while I try to sleep.

I am experiencing #depression and I feel as though breathing is the hardest thing for me to do right now but I’m working to consciously take deep slow breaths.

I am #whiteknuckling my episodes but I think I am ready to consider seeking a treatment that will help me better manage and is less taxing on myself.

This is just an experience like many I’ve gone through in the past and I know I’ll get back up.

This is what I go through when I experience an episode and it’s important for me to share this with you as I continue to shed light on #mentalillness and work on changing the #narrative and #stigma around it for others but more importantly for myself.

I may not be ok right now but I know I will get better.

I’ve learned that when we don’t deal with our negative emotions, our bodies hold onto them and can manifest in various physical illnesses.

It’s ok to experience negative feelings; to experience depression. But what’s important is to not suppress those feelings or to pretend they don’t exist.

There are so many resources out here now and mental health illnesses are being de-stigmatized.  If you need it, get help. Don’t be afraid to talk about your experience, this helps in the healing process and it reminds us we are not alone.

Your mental health is as important than your physical health.

I’m so 🙏🏽 grateful for all the growth and self love I’ve developed and feel like I’m continuously evolving.

My journey has taken me to discover my various passions from data analytics, advocate for mental health, and now bringing stories to life  through narration.

I consider myself a fierce and loyal friend and am thankful to my dear friends who put up with me 😉😂. I love you all.

For the past several years I’ve been doing a lot of work on myself. Working on healing past traumas, learning to let go of hang ups, regrets, feeling of unworthiness that comes with all of it, and building healthy boundaries.

And yes I’m proud of how I look in this picture but what it means to me is more than skin deep. 

I’m now 45 and can honestly say that I love myself fully; cellulite, scars, and all that comes with aging. I’m perfectly imperfect and Im grateful for that.

As I continue on this journey of healing and self discovery I know I’ll face more ups and downs but all of it is part of the experience of this amazing  thing called life.

There won’t be another me out there and that is pretty cool to know. 

So I encourage all of you to keep fighting the good fight. Continue in your healing journey and trust the process.

You never know when you’ll find yourself talking to someone and catch yourself reflecting on how far you’ve come. 

So please Keep Going!

In honor of #mentalhealthawarenessmonth 

2 years ago I began my journey in advocating to normalize the conversation around mental health. 

I opened up about my personal experience, created a blog site & even created this IG account that focused on my purpose.

This was a scary thing to do because at a glance, I “appear” normal and I was concerned how this may affect my work career. But I pressed the”post” button and decided that I wouldn’t live in the shadows anymore.

Thankfully my message and experience was well received and this step has lead me to do a lot of healing and internal reconciliation. But it is something that is a part of me and I actively work with.

Mental health is complex and there are millions that struggle with it daily; from children in schools to high functioning executives and every person that falls in between. 

Although May is mental health awareness month, I encourage everyone to continue speaking and normalizing this conversation beyond just this month.

Together we can make a difference.

My hour long therapy session. 

This doesn’t replace speaking to a therapist or a psychiatrist but it can definitely help.

To me working out at the gym during  and post pandemic has helped me cope with anxiety and depression.

Exercise  can serve as a Channel to help relieve some of the symptoms the WE struggle with.

Remission and recovery are possible. #talking is part of the process. Don’t be ashamed to share your story. It will inspire others to speak up.

And if you have someone you know that is struggling, #activelistening and #empathy goes along way.

Remember, #depression  #anxiety #bipolar, etc., are #illnesses like #diabetes or #heartproblems

My mental health is my priority. Being in a good space and staying there requires daily work. I’m always researching, and testing what works best for me.
